Monika Friedel

Monika Friedel creates stunning, one off pieces in her zen studio in regional Victoria. As a child she was taught her methods of sewing and production by her visiting German grandmother and as the child of a migrant family, was taught early the value of reuse and repurposing. This ideal of upcycling has carried through to her creations, and married perfectly with an adoration of vintage Japanese fabrics that she stumbled onto quite by accident, resulting in her beautifully crafted garments.

 

All pieces made by Monika Friedel are completely individual and one of a kind. They are made using repurposed vintage Japanese kimono/ haori/ obi fabrics, which are beautiful works of art in their own right.
